How to Change Your Life in 3 Simple Steps

Changing your life really isn’t simple, but it begins with 3 simple yet very powerful steps. One of the most empowering action steps I took to achieve my dream body and what helped me achieve losing over 100 pounds was to make a vision board. I know it sounds silly, but I got the idea from a show I saw on Oprah and after creating one for myself and seeing my dream actualized, I became a firm believer in the power of vision boards. I also had a fabulous coach and mentor which I couldn’t have been able to do it without her…(you can read about how I did it in by first book titled, Fat Chick to Cover Model on Amazon).

However, some dreams need both the power of a vision board and a coach.

How to Create an Empowering Vision Board

Your brain will work tirelessly to achieve the statements you give your subconscious mind. And when those statements are the affirmations and images of your goals, you are destined to achieve them!

Creating a vision board is probably one of the most valuable visualization tools available to you. This powerful tool serves as your image of the future – a tangible representation of where you are going. It represents your dreams, your goals, and your ideal life.

Because your mind responds strongly to visual stimulation-by representing your goals with pictures and images-you will actually strengthen and stimulate your emotions…  and your emotions are the vibrational energy that activates the Law of Attraction. The saying “A picture is worth a thousand words,” certainly holds true here.

If you have already defined your dreams, it’s time to illustrate them visually.

How to create a vision board that depicts the future you wish to create.

Step 1 – Find pictures that represent or symbolize the experiences, feelings, and possessions you want to attract into your life, and place them in your board. Have fun with the process! Use photographs, magazine cutouts, pictures from the Internet–whatever inspires you. Be creative. Include not only pictures, but anything that speaks to you. Consider including a picture of yourself in your board. If you do, choose one that was taken in a happy moment. You will also want to post your affirmations, inspirational words, quotations, and thoughts here.

Step 2: Choose words and images that inspire you and make you feel good.

You can use your vision board to depict goals and dreams in all areas of your life, or in just one specific area that you are focusing on.

Step 3 – Keep it neat, and be selective about what you place in your vision board. It’s a good idea to avoid creating a cluttered or chaotic board… you don’t want to attract chaos into your life. Use only the words and images that best represent your purpose, your ideal future, and words that inspire positive emotions in you. There is beauty in simplicity and clarity. Too many images and too much information will be distracting and harder to focus on.

If you are working on visualizing and creating changes in many areas of your life, then you may want to use more than one vision board. You might use one for your personal goals and another for career and financial goals. You might even want to keep your career vision board at the office or on your desk as a means of inspiration and affirmation.

How to use your vision board.

 

  1. Try keeping your vision board on the nightstand next to your bed. Leave it standing in an open position as often as you are comfortable with, and spend time each morning and evening visualizing, affirming, believing, and internalizing your goals.

 

  1. The time you spend visualizing in the evening just before bed is especially powerful. The thoughts and images that are present in your mind during the last forty-five minutes before going to sleep are the ones that will replay themselves repeatedly in your subconscious mind through¬out the night, and the thoughts and images that you begin each day with will help you to create a vibrational match for the future you desire.

 

  1. As some time goes by, and your dreams begin to manifest, look at those images that represent your achievements, and feel gratitude for how well the Law of Attraction is working in your life. Acknowledge that it is working. Don’t remove the pictures or images that represent the goals you’ve already achieved.  Achievement of the goals in your vision board are powerful visual reminders of what you have already consciously and deliberately attracted into your life.

 

  1. I recommend you write down the date you created your vision board. The universe loves speed, and you will be amazed at just how quickly the Law of Attraction responds to your energy, commitment, and desires. Much like a time capsule, this board will document your personal journey, your dreams, and your achievements for that particular year. It will become a record of your growth, awareness, and expansion that you will want to keep and reflect back upon in years to come.

 

  1. It’s a good idea to create a new vision board each year.  As you continue to grow, evolve and expand, your dreams will too. Your Vision Board is meant to be kept and cherished. They chronicle your not only your dreams, but your growth and achievements.

 

Final thoughts on using your completed vision board:

  • Look at your vision board often and feel the inspiration it provides.
  • Hold it in your hands and really internalize the future it represents.
  • Read your affirmations and inspirational words aloud.
  • See yourself living in that manner.
  • Feel yourself in the future you have designed.
  • Believe it is already yours.
  • Be grateful for the good that is already present in your life.
  • Acknowledge any goals you have already achieved.
  • Acknowledge the changes you have seen and felt.
  • Acknowledge the presence of God in your life.
  • Acknowledge the Law of Attraction at work in your life.
  • Look at it just before going to bed and first thing upon rising.

The Law of Attraction and How I Lost 100 Pounds…& People Mag Cover

It’s been several years since I lost 100 pounds and landed on the cover of People Magazine, interviewed by Robin Roberts of Good Morning America and highlighted on Entertainment Tonight for this accomplishment.

When looking back, I really can say that it was truly due to prayer and the Law of Attraction! But, I didn’t know what I was doing back then. I just remember being at a point where all of my ‘being’ and ‘wanting’ and ‘desiring’ was pin-pointed toward what I wanted and it seemed as if that ‘wanting’ was so powerful, like a big magnetizing ball of energy fueled with tremendous feeling, intensity, and love for want I felt was my only solution, is when the powers that be decided to answer my intention.

After I lost the weight, people who hadn’t seen me for a while would stop me at the most inconvenient times and ask me how I did it. They would ask me while standing in line at the grocery store, or while I was shopping in TJ Max, or in line at the bank.

I remember thinking that just saying I ate healthy and worked out was not really the case. What transpired over a 3 year period could not be summed up so simply. I mean think about it. The mind-set of a 240 pound person to the mind-set of a 132 pound person was totally different and it was the journey of the mind that was really the issue and where all the transformation happened.

I mean, if you think about it. If it was as easy as eating right and working out, then everyone could do it. If it was that easy, then there wouldn’t be thousands of weight loss books on the market and the weight loss industry would not a multi-billion dollar industry now would it?

For this reason, I wrote, Fat Chick to Cover Model. It is a book explaining the journey and what I did exactly. The difference in my story as compared to others is that I lost it with the help of a celebrity trainer and through a process of Mind, Body, Spirit approach.

I’ve always been a spiritual person and I believe that when people try to attempt losing weight without using mental strategies or through a system of spiritual transformation, then the results will not happen for them.

People think that if they simply focus on what they are to eat and how they are to workout then the magic will happen and a new body will appear. But, that’s not the case. The body is very complex and how the body sheds excess weight varies due to several scientific factors.

After losing the weight and I slowing transmuted my career into the medical industry, working with some of the top physicians and surgeons in America and in corporate wellness, I was one of the only medical weight loss specialist with experience working with people of all ages and with every medical condition you can think of.

And through this experience, I gained the knowledge and scientific background to discover a couple of ‘missing links’ in weight loss that I feel, once disclosed, will change the world of weight loss forever.

Now, how I got on the cover of People Magazine is interesting. My goal was to be on the cover of Entrepreneur magazine. I wanted to be highlighted as a success in the weight loss industry because my life goals include being a success in health, wealth, love, happiness, and world contribution. I put a picture of my face on the cover and placed the cover of the magazine near my computer so that every time I worked at my computer (which is everyday) I would see it and it and hopefully attract the outcome I was seeking.

Instead of Entrepreneur Magazine, it was People Magazine that approached me, not me approaching them like the rest of the women who were highlighted in the magazine. And I believe it was sheer divine intervention that helped me land on the cover!

I still don’t have the Law of Attraction mastered yet. I’m thinking it’s because it’s not just the Law of Attraction that directs everything, but perhaps a combination of destiny and fate, not quite sure, but I’m still learning.

My next challenge: Rebuilding my body after 2 years of dealing with a spinal condition resulting in major surgery. Everyone can have set-backs, but if I wasn’t healthy, I would not have been able to recover as quickly as I have so far. I’m learning that my health is gift and something that is constant and every changing and to have ultimate health is something I have to earn or make sure I am ‘aligned’ with. It’s something I must respect, cultivate, honor, appreciate and be grateful for continuously. I get to decide. And I choose the best I can be.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Does Guided Meditation Help You Lose Weight?

Possibly. If you ask Brazilian fashion model Giselle Bundchen, she will tell you it helped her stay fit during both of her pregnancies and she also attributes meditation to keeping her stay mindful and focused while losing the baby weight. But, can guided meditation  help YOU lose weight?

Everyone is aware that to change your body size a focus on diet and exercise is important. Yet, it is evident that just focusing on what you eat and how you are to move is not helping because 68% of Americans are still considered overweight and/or obese. Therefore, there must be an underlying reason why weight loss is still a problem for many people. Perhaps that’s why some have resorted to using guided meditation to help them lose weight.

If you think about it from a mind, body, spirit or soul perspective, being over weight or obese is a symptom and not a root cause. The underlying root cause of a weight issue could be many things from stress, a traumatic event, poor planning, bad habits, and more. It’s very important to know ‘why’ you are over weight. Sometimes people don’t know why and that’s where a therapist or weight loss coach can be of great help.

Even if you know what the reason is, you have still need to know how to unlearn the behaviors and habits that are not conducive to weight loss success and trying to change bad habits can take a long time. That’s where guided meditation can help.

What is Guided Meditation?

Guided meditation is when a narrator guides you through the meditation experience. Studies have shown that meditation and guided meditation helps for many reasons. Stress, is the number one root issue of many weight related problems and since studies have shown that meditation can help reduce stress, then it would also mean that it can help with weight loss too.

However, it goes a little deeper than that. Studies have also shown that the brain does not distinguish between an imagined event and a real one, so the experience in a guided meditation session can seem to be like having a real experience. In the case of trying to reverse negative habits that contribute to weight gain and/or sticking to a nutrition and exercise plan, meditation has been shown helpful to change habits by reprogramming the mind with new thought patterns that positively reinforce new habits, beliefs, and actions to support a lifestyle which is aligned to the desired outcome.

How is Guided Meditation Done?

First, you are guided to relax your body and mind by quieting yourself and by using deep breathing techniques.

Second, after your mind is in a meditative state, the narrator will begin to take you on a journey in your mind that when completed will leave you refreshed, encouraged, and empowered to take on the new suggestions as daily actions.

There is a lot of supporting evidence that it helps by helping you to become aware of your thoughts and actions including those actions and behaviors that relate to food.

There are a lot of guided meditation audios available for purchase. You can listen to a few on YouTube to find the ones that best suit your style. It is important to also feel comfortable with what the narrator is saying and if you agree with the suggestions and with the tone of the narrator’s voice.

Celebrities like Beyonce, Oprah, Russell Brand, Russell Simmons, Katy Perry, and all choose meditation to improve their life. Some to use it to maintain their health, while others use it for peace of mind and business success. Meditation is an ancient practice and is a guiding force in most religions, you don’t need to be religeous to make meditation a daily practice.

What is the Next Step?

There are many guided meditations for sale on almost every topic imaginable including  weight loss.  But very few that teach you how to use visualization to help design your ideal body.

It is important to first know what you want to look like when you have reached your goal. Why is this important? I took a risk and asked because I was desperate. But, I knew if I could lose it, anyone could and I vowed that I would take what I learned to help others.

She had tried diets in the past but wasn’t successful. Then, she realized she needed professional help. With the help of a nutritionist and trainer, she was able to lose the weight. It took her 3 years.

 

Her story is so similar to mine. My lose skin was my breasts and stomach. Like Tanya, I tried to live with it but, I almost felt more isolated with the lose skin then when I was heavy, so I decided to have breast augmentation. Plus Size Model Scores a Home Run on Sports Illustrated!

Thank God, the 1960 Twiggy days where stick-thin models dominate the model and fashion world have come to an end. The brain washing is finally over as the curvy voluptuous woman is celebrated!

 

Can you imagine? Finally being acknowledged by one of the top magazines in the world, Sports Illustrated, that different body types are not only fashion worthy, but also ‘showing-skin, sexy bikini, in your face’ worthy!

 

Rhonda Rousey, UFC MMA star, Ashley Graham, and Hailey Clauson have been unveiled as the cover stars for 2016 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. It’s the first time that three very different body types have been represented by the publication in its annual bikini specials.

Rousey said: ‘It’s a real honor being part of such a historic issue that really pays homage to different body types of women and not promoting just one cookie cutter image for every woman, but showing that the healthiest version of every body type is the sexiest version out there. ‘And I couldn’t be happier…I think I was just as honored to get it as to be there in person to watch Ashley’s reaction and Graham, at a size 14, is the first fuller-figured model to take one of the prized spots on the cover.

The magazine has taken a gigantic leap toward accepting and honoring different female body types: athletic, slender, and curvy.

One thing Sports Illustrated is holding strong to is the importance of health and fitness. All three women are strong, sexy, and healthy! How do you know? BMI and Fat% numbers, healthy glowing skin and hair and attention to ultimate beauty and self-care cannot be covered up, even with the most advanced photo-shop.

When I weighted over 250 pounds at 5’2’’ there was no way I was healthy, sexy, or showing that I loved myself or valued self-care.

Later, after losing the weight and getting on the cover of another world-renowned magazine, People, I showed the world that obesity could be conquered no matter how difficult the odds are

As a sports fan of MMA (I believe I’m Rhonda Rousey’s number one fan. I even defended her in the last fight losing her UFC bantamweight champion title to Holly Holm.) I’m very pleased to see an athletic body on the cover and elated when Serena Williams was named Sportsperson of the Year and was iconed on SI as well.

I believe all sizes are beautiful but I prefer ‘health’ as the gage for all beauty.

Not all super skinny are healthy nor is every plus-size model. Yet, there are many body types that are should be honored. I believe it’s been the power of femininity and women who have demanded the ‘twiggy’ era to end and men who have publically acknowledged their love for a variety of body types. It’s a collective effort coming together.

Here’s my problem. I attend a group; I won’t mention the name…shhh! (W.W.) where we weigh in each week. Some weeks I lose and I feel great and the weeks I don’t I feel so horrible it makes be want to give up! Also, the weeks I lose makes me think I can cheat and the weeks I don’t lose makes me hate myself so much especially if I have been PERFECT! I HATE SCALES!!! Can you help me get off this rollercoaster?

Well, Ms. Dee, I totally understand how you feel. I use to go in for those weekly meetings too many, many, years ago when I weighed over 100 pounds and hated the scale. When I entered the studio at the lower level of the Trainer’s Club in Portland, Oregon, everyone was gathered around in a circle chatting softly exchanging stories of the past week. They were so lively and energetic and beautiful. They were some of the healthiest looking people I had ever seen. Everyone looked so young and I felt so out of place, yet I knew I was in the right place. Despite this knowledge, I was not prepared for what would unfold later.

 

The circle opened up a bit and there she was, in the center, shuffling through her music collection with the biggest smile on her face. A welcoming look my way let me know I was about to enter a journey of a lifetime. The conversation was about many things all at once because everyone was so excited. I had never seen people so excited about exercise in my life. My past history of Jane Fonda DVDs and crazy maniac out of control step classes was how I viewed exercise, so seeing these people so pumped up and expectant was something totally new to me.

 

Victoria welcomed me to her class and explained that I would do well and if I got tired, to just stop, step back against the wall and just march in place. She said not to worry, but to just have fun. Then the music started.

 

The three-hour class began with stretching. The moves were so soothing and every muscle, from the muscles surrounding my neck and shoulders to the bottoms of my feet were stretched for flexibility. The music was soft as the lighting in the room. All through the routine, Victoria explained each stretch and purpose of each stretch, explaining the benefit of all the moves. The moves were cleaning, revitalizing and energizing. We focused on breathing techniques and asked to release the cares of the week as we entered into a new week of joy and expectancy. I stretched muscles I never knew I had and the music was soothing and comforting to my spirit and emotions.

 

I was tired from being overworked and lonely from being single and I felt empty. At a recent check-up, I was informed that I had high blood pressure and was pre-diabetic. My doctor suggested that I lose weight, but every plan I would try ended in failure. Most of my energy was spent on my job and numerous community, social, and volunteer groups to avoid having to work on myself I suppose.

 

Bouts of depression led to emotional eating and I didn’t know how to stop the constant struggle with unhealthy food. I didn’t know how to change my situation. I knew I wanted more from life, but didn’t know how to go about getting what I desired. Pouring my energy into work was an escape mechanism allowing feelings to be stuffed down deep. I didn’t know where to turn.

 

The calmness of the studio allowed my mind to flush out all the stress with each stretch. The music lyrics spoke to the inward places in my spirit helping me to open up and absorb the positive energy. When we finished stretching, I felt revitalized and ready for whatever was next as the lights were lifted. But I wasn’t prepared for what I saw next.

 

The walls of the studio were mirrored. There were mirrors in front of me. There were mirrors on the side of me. The reflection I saw looking back at me was not the woman I thought I knew. She was HUGE! She was Fat! She was, ME It was as if scales had been lifted from my eyes and for the first time in years, I was seeing myself as I really was, unfit and unhealthy. My body was very large and it was difficult finding workout clothes to fit me. I had to wear my regular street clothes. I chose a soft pull-over top and a pair of jersey wide-legged pants to be my workout uniform. Not being able to wear normal exercise wear made me feel embarrassed and it was humiliating.

 

A thousand thoughts came to my mind all at once like a flood-gate rushing in. In my mind were many negative thoughts about myself.

 

I knew it was not good to compare myself to others, but when I saw myself along side all the other participants where who were so fit and beautiful, my eyes were open to the truth about my situation and at that moment I had two choices to make.

 

Either I would run away in shame, never to come back to the class again, or stay, face my hurt ego and pride, and toss then both in the garbage so I could be healed once and for all. I had come to learn later after my dramatic weight loss that very few people, once faced with the same truth, would have chosen to stay.

 

My staying in the room that day and for many days afterward, was one of the greatest things I had ever had done for myself and I learned that it is the people who can face the truth that can become free.

 

I wasn’t prepared learn how inflexible I was or how I couldn’t keep up with everyone. I would get out of breath easily and could not get through the workouts without numerous breaks. I would have to stand against the back of the room and march-in-place many times while watching the others participating in the exercises with ease.

 

Just walking normally caused me to sweat, so doing aerobic exercises unleashed floods of perspiration that was embarrassing. Tears are streaming from my eyes as I am writing this chapter, because it brings back memories of that day, but I am so glad that I didn’t run out the room and stayed to face the truth.

 

A Masterpiece at the End of the Journey

 

For you my dear friend, it will be the same. You will have to make the same decision I made many years ago. When you finally face the truth of your situation, will you run away in shame? Or, will you face the truth and allow the truth to set you free?

 

The marvelous conclusion is this. Allow humility to enter your life. Know that you are in the right place at the right time. Know that today is the first day of your new life and the beginning of the unveiling of what will be a masterpiece at the end of the journey.

 

Every move you make is a move toward a better you. Every move in the right direction is like one stitch in the garment of your new being. Each move is like an individual stitch. It takes thousands of stitches to complete a garment worthy to be worn with praise. So know that every effort you make and every goal you reach is taking you to the ultimate goal. Keeping on the journey ended in an unexpected reward.

 

The unveiling for me was the day I appeared on the cover of People Magazine on the May 21st in 2007. That issue, like all issues, went nationwide. Can you imagine? Billions of people read that issue! Perhaps the president of the United States read that issue! Internationally, people read the article and saw for themselves that it was possible to lose 100 pounds without surgery and without a fad diet (which was People Magazine’s requirement to be in the article).

 

The five other women, who were featured in the magazine along with me, didn’t lose the weight quickly either. It took time. For me, it took 3 years. To some people, this may seem like a long time especially, if you think losing weight is agony. I do admit, it was very difficult the first 3 months, but after the initial months of becoming adjusted to the new lifestyle changes, it become easier and this will happen for you as well.

 

Any new endeavor takes some adjustment. You will be successful some days and some days you will not be as successful. Know that every step you take toward the goal is a step well taken. Your effort will not go unacknowledged.

 

You’ve got to be willing to do anything! You’ve got to be willing to do what it takes to reach your goal of weight loss success. If you don’t, you will always find yourself on the roller coaster of yo-yo dieting and never reaching your goal of being fit and trim.

 

Besides the ultimate benefit of looking great and improving your health, imagine the impact your life will make on others? That’s just how powerful this change will be not only for you, but also for others.

 

Realize and face the truth! Your truth! Don’t give another excuse why this time it won’t work. Take action, and know that his time you will reach your goal. Make it work this time and do all that is necessary. I know you can do it.

And don’t let what you see be the ULTIMATE TRUTH. The REAL truth is you are a victorious person who is capable of reaching your goal if you will put forth the effort. Don’t let anything stop you.

Belly Fat and Ground Hog Day– What do they have in Common?

Have you seen the 1993-fantasy comedy movie Groundhog Day starring Bill Murry and Andie MacDowell? Without spoiling it for you by giving all the details (it really is a must see if you haven’t seen it, I suggest you do), Bill Murray plays Phil Connors, an arrogant Pittsburgh TV weatherman who, during an assignment covering the annual Groundhog Day event on February 2nd in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, he finds himself in a time loop, repeating the same day again and again.

 

So, what does this movie have to do with Belly fat?

One of the things I think people do all the time when they want to change their body is to resort to things they’ve tried before even though it didn’t work. And they find themselves like Bill Murray, doing the same things over and over and never getting anywhere. It’s like the saying, trying to get different results using the same actions. It’s a recipe for insanity.

 

Is this you? Are you having trouble with too much love handle to handle? Well, you’re reading the righr article to get you on the road to doing something different and finally seeing the light.

 

It can be really discouraging when you find diets that say they help reduce belly fat and they don’t. To be honest, some programs are just way too difficult to stick to for long periods of time and when you can’t adhere to the stringent diet program, you may feel like a failure when in reality, it’s the program that just didn’t deliver.

Or…

Some people are just know it alls. They’re the ones that say…“ I know what to do…I just have to eat better, exercise more, and not drink so much…blah, blah, blah” But, it’s really more complex.

 

Why should you want to get rid of our belly fat?

 

The main reason why you want to lose your belly fat is because it’s dangerous!!! It’s the cause of almost every major disease including cancer. We all know this, but why is it so hard to lose fat especially around the mid-section?

 

The reason why losing belly fat is difficult.

 

The reason you have belly fat in the first place and the reason why it’s so difficult to lose is because the problem is hormonal. It’s caused by an imbalance of 4 important hormones: high insulin, high cortisol, high estrogen, and low testosterone.

 

High Insulin: Insulin is an essential hormone excreted by the pancreas. Its main function is to process sugar in the bloodstream and carry it into cells to be used as fuel or stored as fat. How do you know if your insulin levels maybe higher than normal? You are eating too many nutrient-poor carbs from processed foods like packaged low-fat foods, sugary drinks including alcohol, desserts, chips, and other packaged snack foods. In addition, you are not eating enough foods with loads of fiber. Over time, a high level of insulin causes metabolic syndrome (or insulin resistance) and type 2 diabetes.

 

High Cortisol: Are you continually stressed? Then even slightly over normal levels of stress can cause the body to increase its level of cortisol. Cortisol is an important hormone that helps the body with self-preservation. It’s the hormone that detects danger by helping the body cope. In modern times, bears don’t chase us or lions or we are not in life threatening situations every minute. However, in our modern age, we can ‘feel’ as if our lives are threatened if we are stressed at work or experiencing difficult relationships or if life seems overwhelming. Persistently elevated levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, are very detrimental to your health as well as to your body composition. If you suffer from a mood disorder such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder or exhaustion, or if you have a digestive issue such as irritable bowel syndrome, you can bet your body is cranking up your cortisol. Not only does it increase your appetite and cravings, it causes a loss of muscle mass, libido and bone density, and also contributes to depression and memory loss.

 

 

High Estrogen: What are the signs? A big belly in men. What causes it? The imbalance of the other hormones; insulin and cortisol caused by an imbalance of food choices. Even if you’re trying to eat healthy, it’s just not helping. That’s because the imbalance is causing a high level of estrogen to resulting in a conversion of testosterone to estrogen. High levels of estrogen increase a man’s risk of prostate cancer. Women who suffer from PMS may have high levels of estrogen causing fat to accumulate not only in your belly but also around your hips and thighs. A sign you have too much estrogen; it’s hard to lose weight. Other signs are low libido, memory loss, poor motivation, depression, and loss of muscle mass.

 

Low Testosterone: Testosterone levels decrease as abdominal fat converts it to estrogen, and also with increasing stress. While you are under stress, your body will tend to make more stress hormone (cortisol) than testosterone. Testosterone levels tend to taper off with aging, obesity and stress, but today men are experiencing testosterone decline much earlier in life, around the age of 25 and 30!! What are the signs? A loss of muscle tissue, depression, and decreased strength, stamina, drive and motivation. If you have your testosterone levels measured with a blood test, be sure to ask that both free and total testosterone be measured.

 

Here’s How You can Lose Your Belly Fat!

 

To lower insulin levels, bump up your protein. Increasing your protein intake keeps your blood sugar balanced and your insulin levels low – a metabolic must for appetite control and fat loss. Protein also packs a hormonal punch because it stimulates the activity of many of our fat-burning and appetite-controlling hormones when we consume it in the right amounts.

 

To lower cortisol levels: Get enough sleep .You must sleep at least 7.5 to 9 hours per night. Sleep deprivation makes us wake up with higher amounts of the stress hormone cortisol, which fuels appetite and increases our cravings, particularly for sugary and carb-laden treats, even when we have eaten enough. Not only does poor sleep pack on pounds, good sleep actually helps you to lose weight by influencing the hormones that control your appetite and increase your metabolism.

 

To lower estrogen levels: Green tea and turmeric have a negative effect on estrogen and helps the body to rid belly fat. It does it by correcting the balance of estrogen to testosterone. Also, adding more fiber to your diet such as ground flax and chia seeds to help assist your body to eliminate harmful estrogen. Too much estrogen in women has been the cause of several types of cancer.

 

To increase testosterone; add the herb tribulus terrestris and supplement with zinc. Women can have low testosterone too. Weight training helps increase testosterone levels as well as getting enough protein.

 

Now you know how to combat belly fat and get rid of it for good! No more doing the same thing over and over again like Phil in Ground Hog’s Day.

February Self-Love Challenge! How I Turned Around My Valentine’s Day Disaster!

Do you mind if I share my heart for a few minutes and get a little transparent and authentic? No matter how much I think I love myself, something always happens to show me that I definitely need to keep working on it.

 

Like the year I bought a guy I had been dating for a short time (about 2 1/2 months- the dates had been amazing! He was fun and I always had a great time with him and I thought he felt the same way about me) Valentine’s Day gifts assuming he liked me enough to do the same. In fact, he asked me out on the day before Valentines Day. Sure sign that I wasn’t on his Valentine’s Day priority list. He accepted my gifts without any explanation of why he didn’t have anything for me and I was too embarrassed to say anything.

 

Just the simple fact that I was too afraid to bring up the subject and that he didn’t care enough about me to give an explanation of why he didn’t give me anything (he accepted the gifts and said ‘thanks’…nothing else) let me know I had a long way to go in the area of self love. It wasn’t so much the exchange of gifts that was the real issue.

 

The real issue was me. I keep attracting emotionally unavailable men! Maybe I’M not as emotionally available as I think I am. I’m not sure, but to be honest, dating has really been very complex for me. And when February comes around, its just another reminder of how much I still have to learn in the area of romantic love. So, I decided after that incident, that I would begin treating Valentine’s Day differently.

 

Now, when Valentine’s Day Comes around, I make it a point to take the entire month and make it a special month of self-care, self-adoration, and self-fulfillment no matter if I am dating someone or not.

 

Most women I know are Big Hearted Women. We love easily and are giving. In fact too giving. It’s hard for me to be the BITCH in order to get and hold a man’s attention. I don’t like having to memorize and live by all the games suggested by some of the popular self-help books. It’s like the suggestions are against my nature. Perhaps they really do work, but one thing for sure…before anything will work, I know in my heart, I have to love self myself more and feel I am worthy of a love I desire and deserve because the world reflects back to us what our beliefs are.

 

Self-love is also important when it comes to health. I had to love myself enough to take the action to change my body. I loved myself enough and took a leap of faith by getting a coach to help me. The coaching, education, and training I received that helped me lose over 100 pounds was the catalyst to my transformation, but if it wasn’t my dedication to loving myself enough to change my body, no coach or trainer could have helped me.

 

Back to Valentine’s Day. I am well aware that Valentine’s Day was created as a huge marketing tool to stimulate the economy, yet every year I fall prey to all the beautiful hearts and roses that fill every store during the month of February. It’s hard not to get swallowed up in the hype. And, no matter how hard I try to say to myself it doesn’t matter that I don’t have anyone serious in my life, I still feel a little empty instead of filled with love and compassion just for the sake of it.

 

That’s why I created the February Self-Love Challenge

Here’s how it works. For every day during the entire month of February (this year is a leap year, so we get 29 days instead of 28 days to love ourselves even more) everyday you celebrate yourself by doing a self-love action. You can make up your own or use a few of the following 45 ideas:

 

1.Take a bubble bath or a shower wearing a tiara.

2.Read about a new interesting topic.

3.Sing.

4.Go on a self-love spending spree and stock up on super foods, organic skin care and coconut water, Juice Plus+ capsules or Complete Shakes (you can ask me about these J)

5.Go to your favorite hairdresser and get a new hairstyle or color.

  1. Make your personal health your priority. Make an appointment with a health coach, or research information on how to get healthier. It’s a simple act of love to yourself which will permeate all areas of your life.
  2. Take a Yoga, Pilates, Kickboxing class, or whatever turns you on….do it!
  3. Grow or buy a new plant.
  4. Do a detox.
  5. STOP doing something that no longer serves you. Smoking. Drinking. Hating. Resenting.
  6. Kiss yourself…on the shoulder. Hand. Foot. Tell yourself you love yourself
  7. Be still. Listen. Feel. Allow yourself to fill with the love and wisdom of the infinite
  8. Stay in your pajamas for a full 24 hours.
  9. Love. See your life through the eyes of love
  10. Appreciate the abundance that you are experiencing right now.
  11. Buy yourself that special something that you’ve been dreaming of. You deserve it.
  12. Take yourself out on a date.
  13. Kiss and cuddle a sweet, furry animal
  14. Fall in love with yourself.
  15. Drink a large glass of purified water. And then another one.
  16. Learn something new. A new skill. A new philosophy. A new habit. Expand your current life experience by adding to it.
  17. Thank yourself for all that you do.
  18. Choose to change your perspective to one that makes you feel good. You have the power.

  26. Eat dark chocolate.
  27. Dress up for yourself. Wear things that make you happy! Don’t dress to “attract a mate” or to impress your peer group, wear things that you like. Make yourself happy!
  28. Don’t patronize places that treat you poorly.

Forgive yourself.

  1. Start dressing in a way, which makes you, feel sexy & confident… As opposed to just following what’s in style. Not all silhouettes suit all people. There are definitely styles that are best for individual body types. Once you know what works for you, make the most of it! Few things make you feel better than knowing that you look great.
  2. Meditate
  3. Dance in public.
  4. Go on a nature adventure
  5. Snuggle up early one evening with your favorite drink and just listen to the world pass by. Preferably on a rainy night.
  6. Keep your Radical Self Love totem on you at all times & start telling people about it.
  7. Explore your sexuality.
  8. Find a mantra & hold it close. Like; Om Namah Shivaya, roughly translated, means “Greetings to She Who I am Becoming” &/or “With great respect, I honor my heart”.
  9. Stretch in the mornings.
  10. Think of a way you could make your life easier — then do it.
  11. Make lists of reasons why you love yourself…
  12. Take a 2-minute self-appreciation break.
  13. Try something new.
  14. Make a green smoothie.

Want to make it really fun? Get a special Valentines Day Journal and write all your actions steps in it and keep tract of what you learn during the process. It will teach you a lot about who you are and how to love yourself 100%.

 

When I look back on that disastrous Valentine’s Day, I don’t blame him or even myself. There are no bad situations only learning experiences and I look at every situation as an opportunity for self-growth and discovery.

 

Also, regardless if I want to attract a love relationship or any relationship for that matter and if I want to be treated with love and respect, I have to love myself first, so much so, that everyone I come in contact with feels the love energy around me and loves and respects me easily and naturally. Most importantly, the creator, the divine source of all that is love ME and YOU and has a silver cord linking it’s heart to ours and we learn must tap into that love, guidance, and support in order to experience the free flow of love and joy.
